Viktor Gyokeres has admitted his frustration at losing his starting spot to Kai Havertz, telling Swedish outlet SVT that he always wants to be on the field but is trying to make the most of his chances.
The 28-year-old arrived from Sporting CP last summer and scored 21 goals in his debut campaign, including 14 in the Premier League as Arsenal won the title. He has started only twice in the league this season, though could feature more after Havertz suffered a muscle strain on international duty.
Gyokeres insisted transfer speculation during the window did not sway him. “Of course there was a lot of speculation. But I had a whole pre-season and it felt good,” he said. “I was fully focused on Arsenal. For me, staying was a given. I feel extremely comfortable at the club.”
The Swedish striker scored in Sweden’s 2-1 win over Romania on Friday and has further internationals before Arsenal resume their campaign at home to Leeds on October 10.
