Oliver Bierhoff has suggested Florian Wirtz could reignite his career at Barcelona, despite the Liverpool forward’s recent upturn in form on international duty.
The former Germany technical director believes Wirtz, who signed for the Reds in 2025 for £116 million, has struggled to adapt to the demands of the Premier League. Bierhoff told German television programme “Die Lage der Liga” that a move to Barcelona under Hansi Flick, who recently made Wirtz captain for Germany, would suit him better. “He would be a good fit with Hansi Flick at Barcelona,” Bierhoff said. “He has space there, and he has fantastic teammates.” Wirtz has seven goals and 11 assists in 55 matches for Liverpool and endured a slow start to this season. However, he scored and assisted in Germany’s 2-0 win over Serbia last week before being handed the captaincy in their 0-0 draw against Greece on Sunday, installed there by Jurgen Klopp.
Wirtz is due back at Anfield this week ahead of Sunday’s clash with Manchester City.
